I Long: The New American Dream
Stephen Sandoval, NYC
March 26, 2006
I long to have my own, secret, over-populated country.
I long to have something I can feel uniquely proud about.
Those little tienditas and restaurantes surrounding me
Make me want to have something more than fries & burgers.
I long at times to have a singular identity,
An identity that is a key to my core;
An identity that supports who I am;
A people for me who I can celebrate and enjoy.
It is not so much a new language that I seek,
But rather, an atmospheric element
That is not so honored in the domineering other half of me,
A culture that is at times known not for the celebration of its own culture.
